What is Community Engagement?

Community engagement involves building strong relationships between individuals and their communities to promote meaningful participation, inclusion, and collaboration. For youth, especially those with developmental disabilities or special needs, engagement means learning how to:

Communicate effectively with peers and adults
Participate in community activities (sports, clubs, volunteering, etc.)
Understand and follow social norms in public spaces
Navigate public transportation or community services
Build confidence and a sense of belonging

Heroes Helping Hand LLC provides hands-on guidance in these areas, working closely with families, schools, and community partners to create individualized experiences tailored to each child’s abilities and goals.

Daily Living Skills Development

Daily living skills are the everyday activities that allow an individual to live as independently as possible. At Heroes Helping Hand, these may include:

Personal hygiene routines
Meal preparation and nutrition education
Time management and organization
Money handling and budgeting
Household chores and safety awareness

By focusing on these foundational skills, Heroes Helping Hand helps children build a strong base for independence while ensuring that learning is age-appropriate and engaging.

How to Qualify for Community Engagement Services:

To access these services through Heroes Helping Hand LLC, your child must be between the ages of 3 and 19, have a developmental disability or delay or be enrolled in or eligible for a Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver (Family & Individual Support, Community Living, or Building Independence) and have a recommendation for Community Engagement in their person-centered plan, coordinated by their Support Coordinator or Case Manager
